Jesus rides in triumphal entry into Jerusalem fulfilling the b.c. 520 prophecy of the Prophet Zechariah, “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass” (Zech. 9:9). A multitude of people including children went before Christ as He rode down from the Mount of Olives and they spread their garments in the way, cutting branches from the trees and spreading them, too. It seemed to many as if the whole world was going after Him, and even that they might try to make Him a king. Yet it was just six days later that some of these same people would cry out, “Crucify Him, crucify Him!”
Jesus fulfilled all of the Prophecies concerning Him, but the people were looking for an earthly king, a worldly king, a political king, not a Heavenly one. Just after He came into Jerusalem that day He overturned the tables of the money changers and those who sold sheep and pigeons, angering many. God is more than we often bargain for, requiring us to change profoundly.
