Saint Olga of Alaska
Born on February 3, 1916, a Native Alaskan of Yup’ik origin served her community as both a priest’s wife and a midwife, giving birth to thirteen children herself. Known for her compassion, she was particularly empathetic to those who had suffered abuse, and despite her family’s poverty, she gave generously to those in need, even sharing her children’s clothing with others. When she reposed on November 8, 1979, the harsh winter weather briefly thawed, allowing people to travel to her funeral, and after her burial, the cold returned.
