Description

Saint Ignatius Brianchaninov

Born Demetrios Brianchaninov in 1807, the result of his devout mother’s prayers for a child. Despite excelling in military school and gaining recognition from Tsar Nicholas I, Demetrios longed for monastic life and eventually joined a monastery after years of resistance from his family and authorities. Ordained as a monk and later consecrated as Bishop of Stavropol, Saint Ignatius spent his life improving monasteries and nurturing the spiritual growth of those under his care, before peacefully passing away in 1867.
